Brilliant Two Circuits On 12 3 Feed
I am wiring my home.
Two circuits on 12 3 feed. There isn t any relationship between 3 wire cicuits being peculiar in kitchens. I ve run 12 3 wg connected ground and neutral to neutral bar in box connected ground and neutral to receptacle connected red and black to the two screws in receptacle removed the tab on the hot side of the receptacle connected red and black in the circuit breaker box each to a separate 20a breaker installed the breakers on opposite legs in the box. He has mentioned that in order to save on wire i can use 12 3 romex to feed 2 circuits one circuit on black and one on red sharing the white common.
If u read 112 volts from black. Long story short the two circuits had a shared neutral nothing fused at the breaker and both hot lines was running through a 12 3 wire with the black and red being the hot. Three wire ckts can be utilized for use in any room in a house in most commercial applications as well.
The implied situation aforementioned by others above is for 2 seperate 120 volt circuits using a common neutral. Note that both the red black wires must be on seperate phases should read 240 volts between them or double whatever each black or red read to ground hence. The black and the red wires will be wired to separate 20 amp breakers and the white will be wired to the neutral bar the ground to the ground bar.
Johnj0906 master electrician. Two circuits on 12 3 feed your question is not in terms i understand but tying grounds to neutrals sounds bad bad. I am assuming i can get two 20 amp circuits out of it.
So in effect the two circuits will be sharing a common neutral. I went ahead and isolated the refrigerator from the outlet and it is now on its own circuit. Joined mar 18 2007 332 posts 2 apr 29 2007.
